Choosing modules: fitting Stippa to your business

What modules are, how to switch them on and off, and which choices are worth making for the way you work.

What modules are

Stippa can do a great deal more than most businesses need. Rather than showing all of it at once, the functionality is split into modules: separate parts you can switch on or off one at a time.

A module that is off disappears from your menu, from your settings and from the booking widget. That keeps the system readable: you see only what you actually work with.

You will find them under Management, then Modules.

Why this is one of the first things you do

When you create your account, Stippa switches on a default selection based on the type of business you said you run. That is a starting point, not a final answer. Two salons of the same size often work completely differently: one wants a waitlist and online prepayment, the other wants quiet and as few screens as possible.

Half an hour on the modules page saves you a lot of hunting later. Two things pay off most:

  • Switch off what you do not use. Unused features cost nothing in money, but they do cost attention. Every extra menu item is one more thing to ignore.
  • Switch on what you are missing. Plenty of businesses struggle with something for months without knowing the answer was already in their plan.

Switching a module on or off

  1. Go to Management, then Modules.
  2. Click a module to see what it does, what it gives you and where its settings live.
  3. Use the switch to turn it on or off.

The change takes effect immediately. There is nothing to save and nothing to reload.

The three kinds of module you will meet

Always on

Some modules are the core of Stippa: appointments, customers, staff and the booking widget. You cannot switch those off, because without them there is no system. They are listed anyway, so you can see how the whole thing fits together.

Yours to switch on and off

Most of them. The waitlist, recurring appointments, follow-up messages, calendar sync. These are part of your plan and it is up to you whether you use them.

Available on a higher plan

If a feature is not in your plan you still see it listed, with a label saying which plan it starts at. So you know what exists without digging through the pricing page. Click it to see what it does before deciding whether switching is worth it.

Submodules: the main switch comes first

Several modules have parts underneath them. Let guests make changes is the main module; cancelling and rescheduling are the two parts under it.

If the main module is off, the parts are inactive even though their own switches are still on. Their setting is remembered: switch the main module back on later and everything is as you left it.

What happens to your data when you switch something off?

Nothing. Switching a module off hides the feature; it deletes no data. Switch the waitlist off and back on again and your existing signups are still there. So you can try things out without any risk.

A module is on, but I see nothing

Three things to check, in this order:

  1. Does the module sit under another one? If the one above it is off, this part is inactive. The module's own detail page tells you.
  2. Is the feature in your plan? A module with a plan label can be clicked, but only becomes active after you switch plans.
  3. Are you an employee? Only owners and admins can change modules. Employees can see the page but cannot change anything.

Still stuck? Have a look at No slots available or get in touch with support.

What to think about when choosing

A few questions that usually settle it quickly:

  • Do you ring customers round when a gap opens in your day? The waitlist is probably the biggest amount of time you can win back.
  • Do the same customers come back every four or six weeks? Look at recurring appointments.
  • Are no-shows a problem? Switch online prepayment on and look at the timing of your reminders.
  • Do you keep a calendar of your own outside Stippa? Calendar sync is what stops double bookings.
  • Do you sell products alongside your services? Then product extras are worth a look.

You do not have to decide everything at once. Switch on what matters now and come back in a month.
