When to pick Stripe
Stripe is the better choice when:
- You expect international customers, or want to expand to other countries later
- You value an extensive dashboard with detailed analysis
- Advanced fraud detection matters to you (Stripe Radar)
- You expect credit card payments and want the slightly lower fee
When to pick Mollie
Mollie is the better choice when:
- You would rather have Dutch-speaking support when something goes wrong
- You do business mainly in the Netherlands and Belgium
- You want a faster, daily payout
- You find a Dutch-language dashboard easier to work with
Are the fees really different?
For iDEAL they are identical: €0.29 per transaction with either.
On European credit cards Stripe is slightly cheaper, 1.5% against Mollie's 1.8%. In practice that makes little difference to most salons, because most customers pay with iDEAL.
Does either one miss a payment method?
Both support every common payment method in the Netherlands. The real difference is reach: Stripe works in more than 46 countries, Mollie is focused on Europe.
What we would suggest for a salon
For a salon in the Netherlands, both are excellent. The difference comes down to preference:
- Pick Mollie if Dutch support and a Dutch dashboard suit you better.
- Pick Stripe if you are comfortable with an international platform and might expand later.
You can switch payment processor at any time under Settings > Payments.
